The Executive Committee for the Australian Patrol Competition Project | Lifesaving
Australia played a crucial role in introducing surf lifesaving to Japan in the 1980s and since then, Australian and Japanese lifesavers have worked together to improve lifesaving outcomes. Lifesaving is a great example of sports diplomacy in action.
On 26-27 October 2019, the Committee held the first Lifesaving Patrol Competition in Japan. Patrol Competitions not only improve life-saving physical skills, but also reinforce rescue techniques and know-how: all necessary skills for surf patrols to ensure safer beaches. Five Japanese lifesaving clubs competed in the competition at Iwai beach, Chiba, which featured demonstrations by Australian national champion members and judges.
